Builders, property dealers and document writers today staged a protest outside the Muktsar District Administrative Complex (DAC) against the state government for hiking collector rates thrice in the last two years.

The protesters blocked the road outside the DAC and performed “jaap” for over an hour. On October 11, they had played flute in front of a buffalo demanding rollback of collector rates.

Karamjit Karma, a property dealer, said “The state government is not paying attention to the problems being faced by property dealers, colonisers and document writers. Even opposition parties are supporting us. The protest will continue until our demand is met.”

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Gurpreet Singh Thind and District Revenue Officer (DRO) Sandeep Kumar met the protesters and assured them that their message would be conveyed to the higher authorities. The protesters said their indefinite protest at Kotkapura Chowk would continue.

SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, PCC head Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya and senior BJP leader Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi have already lent their support to the protesters.
