Case registered against 13 over Fazilka gurdwara clash

The police have booked at least 13 persons in connection with a clash over the post of president of the Shiromani Bhagat Baba Namdev Gurdwara Managing Committee in Fazilka a day ago.

A scuffle broke out between two groups on the gurdwara premises, leading to injuries to Sarbjit Singh, son of the incumbent president of the gurdwara managing committee Parmjit Singh.

In his statement to the Fazilka (City) police, Sarbjit alleged 13-14 persons, including Satnam Singh of Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur district, stormed into the gurdwara at 8.30 am and pressed upon his father to quit the post.

As their demand was turned down, they started hurling abuses and also brought some sharp weapons kept in a car parked outside the gurdwara.

Sarbjit alleged they attacked him with weapons, inflicting injuries on the head, shoulder and arms. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment. There is reportedly a dispute over the control of the gurdwara managing committee for the around past four years.

Satnam Singh is the president of the All India Tank Kshatrya Sabha Punjab unit. He also runs affairs of some gurdwaras named after Baba Namdev in Punjab.Besides Satnam Singh, Satpal Singh, Ishwar Verma, Jeet Sagar, Pritam Singh Ghoga, Jawinderpal Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Davinder Singh, Sunil Kumar and 4-5 unidentified persons, all residents of Fazilka, have also been booked under various sections of the BNS.
