The police remand of radical activist Narain Singh Chaura, who made an assassination bid on former SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on December 4, has been extended by three days.

Chaura was produced in court today after the culmination of the three-day remand granted on December 5. Cops had asked for 10-day remand on the ground that some weapons have to be recovered from Lakhimpur Kheri which he reportedly had revealed during the interrogation.

Chaura’s lawyer Jagdeep Singh Randhawa said that an application was also moved in the court seeking nod for the counsel to meet Chaura, which was accepted today.

“The police also mentioned falsely about 31 earlier cases of explosion and under the Arms Act registered against my client whereas the fact was that he was acquitted in all the cases. Now, another frivolous ground was made by the police that he was to be taken to Lakhimpur Kheri for recovery of some weapons. The police had sought 10-day remand but was only granted three-day remand. He will be produced again on December 11,” he said. Chaura was arrested from the spot of the crime and since then, neither his lawyer nor his family members were allowed to meet him.
