Tightening the noose around liquor mafia in the state, Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Friday launched a mobile app, ‘Excise QR Code Label Verification Citizen App’ as a part of the track-and-trace project being implemented by the Department of Excise.

During the launch event at the Excise and Taxation Bhawan, Cheema said that app is another step to ensure that no counterfeit liquor could is sold in the state.

He said this initiative would help in saving consumers health besides creating another check on the evasion of excise duty.

The minister also launched a 24×7 helpline number — 9875961126 — and appealed the public to support the initiatives of the state government against illicit liquor trade by reporting any of such activities on the helpline.
