  • 2,000 physical education teacher’s posts to be created in primary schools
  • The CM to lay stones for medical colleges at Kapurthala & Hoshiarpur

Presiding over a meeting of various departments, the CM described education as the core sector, which would be streamlined. He also directed the creation of 2,000 physical education teacher’s posts in primary schools.

Advocating the formation of a cluster in every village, whereby the village having a primary, middle or high school can avail the services of a single physical education trainer, the CM asked the School Education Department to actively consider the proposal.

Besides, Channi discussed issues related to various unions and directed that the department might have discussions and after examining their demand take up the matter with the Finance Department.

Accepting the demand of around 1,000 headmaster and teachers recruited under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Programme, the CM directed the Finance Department to release the state share of salaries, which were cut due to the upper cap set by the Centre in 2016. It will cost the state exchequer around Rs 3.2 crore.

He further gave the nod to holding recruitment on 3,400 posts in the Health Department to further strengthen the healthcare system.

He ordered the tabling of the proposal pertaining to the inclusion of the anganwadi/ ASHA and other health workers under the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the Cabinet meeting. The CM further said a new college would be set up in Sangrur with 100 per cent state funding.
