After detecting irregularities in the construction of Reetkheri link road in Patiala on Thursday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directed officials concerned to issue a show-cause notice to the contractor and withhold his payment.The CM was miffed over non-compliance of stipulated weight parameters in the construction of the road.Mann, who also inspected Patiala-Sirhind Road and Rurki to Reona Road in Fatehgarh Sahib, said he was inspecting the under-construction works to check their quality.

He said all departments had been asked to ensure proper coordination so that drainage, potable water pipes and others works get done well before the construction of roads.

He urged the residents to personally monitor the ongoing works as it was their property.

He said the general public should oversee the works and bring any sort of irregularity, if any, in the notice of the state government.

The CM said by the end of next year, the state government would build a total of 44,920 km of roads across all villages, towns and cities at a cost of Rs 16,209 crore. He said the roads were being built with a five-year maintenance clause.

CM Bhagwant Mann said remarks of Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu and BJP state president and former PCC chief Sunil Jakhar show rampant corruption in the grand-old party.
