After participating in a programme at Arniwala village, the AAP to-brass team reached Verma’s house in the afternoon and expressed grief over the brazen murder of Sanjay to his elder brother Jagat Verma, a leading gents’ wears designer. Besides consoling Jagat, they tried to go deep into the circumstances that led to shooting Sanjay on July 7 at 10.15 am by two shooters who, along with their bike-riding accomplices, had fled to board a car having Haryana registration that had been parked near Sitto Gunno Road.

They also discussed the social impact of the incident on the business community.

It was explained that a case was registered on the statement of Sanjay’s son Himanshu identifying Shakti of Azeemgarh colony here who was accompanied by two unknown persons at the time of murder. It was recalled that two Patiala residents, identified as Jaspreet Singh and Ram Rattan, were arrested within 24 hours of the crime and both were killed in cross firing near Panjpeer Tibba where their accomplices were hiding to retrieve weapons.

The visiting AAP leaders were informed that three Bikaner natives were later arrested from Sriganganagar who had received foreign money to help the accused in this case. The police had on July 16 arrested two more suspects, identified as Priyanjal Sharma and Anshuman Tiwari, both natives of Madhya Pradesh. They were arrested from Madhya Pradesh and are accused of providing Rs 1.3 lakh in cash to the shooters. Aarzoo Bishnoi of Rajanwali village near Abohar had taken responsibility for the murder claiming that Sanjay had refused to take his call. The visiting leaders were told that none of the shooters had so far been arrested.
