CM vows cultural revival, shrugs off critics at Patiala event

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday dismissed opposition criticism, asserting the government’s resolve to promote Punjab’s rich history, culture, philosophy and the revered Gurus’ sacrifices. Addressing an event at Punjabi University organised by Zariya Foundation — headed by actor Binnu Dhillon — tablets were distributed to meritorious girl students from government schools.

Citing year-long events for the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Mann said the state had spread the Guru’s message of humanism, religious tolerance and communal harmony worldwide. He stressed instilling these values in the youth and urged Punjabis to champion Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat to bolster cultural roots.

The opposition has criticised the AAP government for spending crores on the special Vidhan Sabha session at Anandpur Sahib, terming it a political spectacle over development.

Mann described the recent rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Jalandhar as “deeply disturbing”, reaffirming zero tolerance for crimes against women and children. He directed police for swift FIRs, speedy probes and fast-tracked trials to deliver justice promptly. The accused, Harminder Singh (46), allegedly attacked the girl visiting his daughter on November 22, sparking outrage.
