Cold wave likely to prevail in parts of north-west India

Dry weather has been prevailing in Punjab for the past few days, which is expected to continue for the next seven days, while shallow to moderate fog was experienced at some places in the state.
Rainfall in November has been 39 per cent below the long-period average so far. From November 1 to 16, the state recorded 1.6 mm rainfall against the LPA of 2.7 mm for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In November, Tarn Taran, Muktsar and Sangrur were the only districts that received surplus rainfall, while Mansa, Bathinda, SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar, Kapurthala and Pathankot remained totally dry. The remaining districts received deficient rainfall.
Over the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded in the state ranged from 5.6°C at Faridkot to 11.3°C at Hoshiarpur, which were below normal at some places by up to 4°C. Day temperature was near normal, the weather department said.
