The cold wave is likely to prevail over parts of southern Punjab till December 6 although the weather in the state is expected to remain dry, the weather office predicted on Monday.

Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Bathinda, Moga, Jalandhar, Barnala, Sangrur and Patiala are likely to be affected, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A western disturbance lies over north Pakistan and its neighbourhood in lower and an induced cyclonic circulation lies over north Haryana and adjoin areas, which is said to be the cause behind the prevailing weather in the region. A fresh feeble western disturbance is likely to influence the western Himalayan region from December 5.

Over the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature in the state ranged from 4.4°C at Bathinda and Faridkot to 9.3°C at Ropar.
