The Punjab Police on Wednesday denied to have provided Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with Z-plus security cover and said the documents, which mentioned security categorised protectees and was circulated in a section of the media, was “wrongly” attributed to the force.

A police spokesperson said, “It is a mischievous attempt to sensationalise the matter. A private document has been wrongly attributed to the Punjab Police.”

Earlier in the day, the Congress alleged the Punjab Police had provided Kejriwal with Z-plus security cover.

PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring sought to know as to why Kejriwal, already a Z-plus protectee from the Centre, needed Z-plus security from Punjab.

“This has been done fraudulently. He has been shown the state AAP convener. He is actually the national convener. Shame on such pettiness!” he said.

At a press conference, Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira furnished a purported list of the protectees of Punjab and said it was submitted in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in connection with a writ petition filed by former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni.

The police spokesperson said the document was part of Annexure 5 of writ petition No. 11872 of 2022 filed by Soni in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

“The attached documents are in no way the official papers of the Punjab Police. A perusal of the alleged list clearly shows that it is a typed document and there are no signatures, initials, official stamps or official authentication on the document,” the spokesperson said.

He added any person could obtain copies of the writ petition from the website of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to verify the facts.
