The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee today announced to launch its state-wide mass agitation against the Central Government’s amendments to the Agricultural Marketing Act, from Fatehgarh Sahib on June 19.

After convening a meeting of ministers and MLAs, PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar said beginning from Fatehgarh Sahib, small gatherings would be held in all district headquarters to inform the MLAs and DCC officials, sarpanches, zila parishad and block samiti members about the adverse effects of these laws on the farmers. They would further brief people in detail about the hidden agenda of the BJP and Akali Dal’s silence on the issue.

He said the state Congress chief said the Union Government conspired to abolish MSP for crops. If this happens then not only the farmers but also the arhtiyas, transporters and other stakeholders in the sector would suffer.
