Arvind Kejriwal, AAP convener, who was present in the city did not attend the joining ceremony. State party chief Bhagwant Mann, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, party’s Punjab affairs co-incharge Raghav Chadha, and other local leaders were present.

Lalli Majithia, who had lost the past three Assembly elections to Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, said that after having resigned as the Pungrain director, he held a thorough discussion with Kejriwal.

Bhagwant Pal Singh Sachar, president of the district Congress committee (rural), said: “Lalli Majithia’s move is a betrayal. The party reposed faith in him and gave him ticket thrice and even honoured him with the post of the Pungrain director.”

Meanwhile, Kejriwal paid obeisance at Bhagwan Valmiki temple. Later, he made four promises — free education to Dalit children, dissolution of the shrine board, regular jobs to sanitation workers and kits for all sewer men. — TNS
