Gurmel Singh, Patti block president of the Congress in Tarn Taran, was shot dead by unidentified assailants here on Wednesday.

Gangsters Doni Bal, Prabh Dasuwal, Afridi Tut and Kaushal Chowdhury have claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post. Calling him a police informer, they said he informed the police about Afridi’s whereabouts, leading to his arrest.

They alleged he was in alliance with their enemies and could have caused further harm to them. Those wanting to harm them would meet the same fate, they said.
