Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh on Tuesday said power consumers from the socially disadvantaged sections, who were earlier getting 200 units of free power, will get 600 units of free power only if they have load of less than 1 kilowatt.

The Minister was talking to mediapersons. He also said if any of these consumers were filing Income Tax returns, they would be ineligible for getting free power.

This statement from the Ministercomes amidst protests from some sections of General category consumers against special privileges being given to those from socially disadvantaged sections.
