The police have launched a special programme for the safety of women at religious functions held during the festival season.

Under the programme, organisers of Ramlila and Dasehra have been asked to take proactive measures for the safety of women at their events. The latter were also imparted essential tips on self-defence.

SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur informed that the Malerkotla district police led by SSP Gagan Ajit Singh had launched the drive to ensure safety of women spectators and performers at religious and social functions.

“The police have also made adequate security arrangements at and near the venues of religious functions, including Ramlila and Dasehra, the rank and file had been advised to pay attention on the safety

and security of women and children during the festival season,” said Swaranjit Kaur, who addressed gatherings at Ramlila events at various places.

Boosting the confidence of women present there, she informed them about initiatives being taken by the administration for their safety. ‘112’ all-in-one helpline number, Nirbhaya Fund, Nirbhaya Squad, Meri Saheli, Himmat App, Raksha App, Nirbhaya App, GPS trackers, panic button on phones and affordable GPS necklaces were cited among efficacious tool for women safety.

The SSP appreciated the concern of organisers towards safety of women attending their functions by deploying trained volunteers.
