A couple and one of their accomplices have been arrested in the Sunday firing incident in which a youth was injured and referred to Sriganganagar for treatment.

Targetted two

On Sunday, Harpreet Singh of Panjpir Nagar, suffered a bullet injury when he was on a walk with his friend Surman Singh near Abohar bypass. The duo was talking to locals Gurjit Singh and Raman Vicky. Suddenly, a Fortuner car stopped, three persons came out of it and attacked Gurjit. As Harpreet and Surman intervened, the car driver fired a bullet at Harpreet.

SSP Varinder Singh Brar said here today that accused, identified as, Satpal Singh Satti of Sham Khera in Muktsar, had 8 cases registered against him at Kabarwala police station, two of which were under the NDPS Act, while other cases were of attempted murder, theft and trespass. His wife Manpreet Kaur had 7 cases registered against her in Malout, Muktsar and Bathinda police stations under the NDPS and Excise Act. Their accomplice, Jaswinder Singh of Pakki Tibbi in Malout, has a case registered at Malout under the NDPS Act.

Another accused, Jarnail Singh of Gurusar Jodha, was yet to be arrested.

The duo was talking to locals Gurjit Singh and Raman Vicky who had come in their car. Suddenly, a Fortuner car stopped there, three persons came out and attacked Gurjit. As Harpreet and Surman intervened, the Fortuner car driver fired a bullet at Harpreet. After this, the miscreants fled away.

The SSP said that a case was registered under Sections 307, 323, 34 of the IPC and 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act. The registration number of the Fortuner was partially available with the witnesses. Investigation teams were able to identify the accused and three of them were held. An unlicensed pistol and the car used for the crime have been seized. Interrogation was likely to unfold the mystery shrouding the attack.
