Four persons, including a couple belonging to Haryana, were killed in a car-truck collision on the GT Road at Sirhind today. Three others were seriously injured and referred to a government hospital in Chandigarh. The family was returning from Amritsar after paying obeisance at Golden Temple.
ASI Najar Singh said a speeding truck hit the car from the rear near Chawla Chowk. The car flipped several times and was badly damaged. Four car occupants died on the spot, while three others were seriously injured, he said. The deceased have been identified as Krishan Lal and his wife Renu, both residents of Rewari, Haryana; and Neelam Dhamija and Bissessar Grover, both residents of Delhi. The injured were car driver Himant Sharma of Rewari, Veena Grover and Shyam Dhamija.
Passersby rushed to the spot and dragged out the trapped victims. The driver of the truck fled the scene.
