“An AI deepfake video of Punjab CM is being shared by right-wing trolls. This is a fake video, and the court has issued directions to remove it,” said an AAP post.
On October 22, the court directed Facebook and Google to remove all offensive material and preserve records related to the content to ensure the evidence remains intact.
Following widespread speculation triggered by the social media post, the Punjab State Crime Police booked Canadian resident Jagman Samra on October 21 for posting “vulgar, unlawful” content aimed at instigating enmity among different groups.
Police stated that the Facebook account ‘Jagman Samra’ uploaded multiple posts with malicious intent to promote discord and disrupt public harmony in Punjab.
“The content is vulgar, unlawful, and has the potential to incite hatred, enmity, or ill-will among groups of people,” read the official complaint. The post was detected by the social media monitoring cell.
Based on the complaint filed by Inspector Gaganpreet Singh, a case was registered under Sections 340(2), 352(1), 353(2), 351(2), 336(4) of the IPC and Section 67 of the IT Act at the Punjab State Crime Police Station on October 21.
