Court orders attachment of salaries of revenue officials

Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsIn a case related to the land acquisition of several villages for the widening of the Ghaggar in the Moonak and Khanauri areas of Sangrur district, the court of Additional District Judge Upinder Singh Jandu, Sangrur, has ordered the attachment of the salaries of several revenue officials posted in the Moonak sub-division.The attachment of the salaries was ordered due to the “lackadaisical approach” of the officials towards the case/in making calculation reports, regarding balanced payment to the owners (farmers) of the acquired land in the villages of the Moonak and Khanauri areas.
Stating this here today Lalit Garg, counsel for Jagjit Singh and others, further said that the land of his clients was acquired by the state government for the widening of the Ghaggar in 2008, but the full and final payment of the acquired land had not been made to them yet by the government.
In its order, the court directed revenue officials, naib tehsildar Tarlochan Singh, kanungo Paramjit Singh, clerk Vikram in the office of Moonak SDM, clerk Jagdeep Singh in the office of the Khanauri sub-tehsil and all patwaris concerned Sukhjinder Singh, Parveen, Gaurav Bansal and Gurmail Singh, posted in the Moonak sub-division, to appear in the court on May 9 at 10 am as the court had fixed the next date of hearing as May 9 for furnishing proper record in all cases.
Lalit Garg, counsel of Jagjit Singh and others, also said that after the acquisition of the land, some payment had been made to the farmers in different years, but full and final payment had not been made so far by the government to all land owners. Later, many farmers moved the civil court in Sangrur for justice, he added.
