Covid curbs: Punjab Schools, colleges shut till March 31

All private and government schools and colleges in Punjab will remain closed till March 31 in the wake of the Covid outbreak in the country. However, exams will be held as per schedule, said Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Friday. Anganwaris too will be shut.

The minister said as the virus was spreading all over the world, precautionary measures needed be intensified to prevent the deadly disease.

Singla made it clear that schools conducting exams would remain open and there won’t be any change in the schedule.

He appealed to students to frequently wash hands with soap or alcohol-based sanitiser. “No self-medication should to be taken and consult a specialist for treatment,” he added.

Meanwhile, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Aruna Chaudhary has announced holidays for children in all anganwari centres in the state till March 31. There is, however, no holiday for the staff.

Sangrur: Two suspected patients of Covid have been admitted to the Civil Hospital here. “The two patients are young. They returned from Nepal last month. After they reported health problems at a hospital in Dhuri, they were referred to the Civil Hospital. We have admitted them to the isolation ward,” said Dr Kirpal Singh, Senior Medical Officer.
