Cylinder lifters have a free run, Abohar police in tight spot

As cops are already grappling with snatching incidents, daylight theft of LPG cylinders has put the Abohar police in a tight spot.

In New Suraj Nagari, two motorcyclists stole an LPG cylinder from a delivery vehicle on Monday afternoon. The incident was captured on CCTV.

Krishan Kumar of Indira Nagri said he went to New Suraj Nagri to deliver cylinder to a consumer. He said when he came out of the house after giving delivery, two youths decamped with a cylinder from his autorickshaw.

Abohar Congress president Subhash Baghla said theft and snatching incidents had increased manifold in the city.

Baghla added that anti-social elements had no fear of the police and were having a free run.

Pramila Sidhu, in-charge of police station-2, Abohar, said she had received a complaint related to this incident and probe had been initiated.

“We are analysing CCTV footage to ascertain identity of the miscreants. They will be nabbed soon,” she said.

Earlier, two bike-borne miscreants stole an LPG cylinder from the house of former councillor Anjali Chhabra in Nai Abadi.

Last week, two motorcyclists decamped with an LPG cylinder from a tea stall as the vendor went to a nearby shop to purchase grocery. Thieves have also targeted the Civil Hospital and Judicial Complex.
