The indefinite fast by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) convener Jagjit Singh Dallewal entered its 12th day at the Khanauri border on Saturday. Dallewal is demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) on crops and the fulfilment of other long-pending demands of farmers.

According to sources, Dallewal’s health has started worsening. As per his medical report, his blood pressure on Saturday was recorded 152/103, pulse rate 87 per minute, blood sugar 99 mg per cent and body temperature 96.50°F. He has also lost 8.5 kg till today.

Meanwhile, a well-know ‘raagi’, Baldev Singh Vadala, recited kirtan today on the stage at the border and extended his full support to the morcha.

Vadala also questioned why the government had been backtracking on implementing the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission despite farmers’ long-standing demand for MSP on crops based on the report.
