Jaswinder Singh, son of the deceased, said his father, a panch of the village, was under the debt of approximately Rs 4 lakh. Due to the death of his grandmother recently, his father was also mentally disturbed, said Jaswinder.

On Monday morning, he went missing and the family started a search for him. Jaswinder said when he went to the room where animals are kept, he saw the body of his father hanging with a noose around his neck. He said they gave the information regarding the incident to the Badali Ala Singh police station.

ASI Avtar Singh said the police had registered a case on the statement of the son of the deceased and handed over the body to the family after postmortem at the Civil Hospital.
