A resolution moved by AAP MLAs to tackle the stray cattle menace by sending stray Holstein Friesian bulls to butcher houses resulted in a pandemonium in the House on Thursday. Opposing the resolution, the SAD-BJP MLAs blamed AAP for engaging in communal politics by advocating cow slaughter.

As soon the resolution by AAP MLA Aman Arora, Kultar Singh Sandhawa and Prof Baljinder Kaur was moved, Akali MLA NK Sharma objected to it. “It is for the first time in the history of the Vidhan Sabha that a political party has openly demanded cow slaughter to tackle the problem of stray animals,” he said.

Heated arguments ensued between Sharma, Congress MLA Khushal Deep Dhillon and AAP MLA Aman Arora.

Rebel AAP MLA Kanwar Sandhu said there was no data to show that stray cattle of foreign breed were the only cause of accidents. Prof Baljinder Kaur said despite the CM constituting a sub-committee to deal with the menace, nothing had been done. Congress MLAs Raja Amarinder Warring supported Akalis against the resolution, urging AAP to withdraw it. — TNS
