Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday laid the foundation stone of a multipurpose indoor sports hall at Dirba. It would be constructed at a cost of Rs 7.20 crore.

The stone was laid in the presence of Ranjit Kaur, wife of legendary boxer Padma Shri Kaur Singh, and Paramjit Kaur, wife of kabaddi player late Gurmail Singh, at Shaheed Bachan Singh Memorial Sports Stadium in Dirba.

Cheema said the construction would be completed in a year. The hall would help players from Dirba and nearby areas to hone their skills in 11 sports disciplines. He said it would be dedicated to legendry boxer late Padma Shri Kaur Singh and kabaddi player late Gurmail Singh.

Cheema also laid the foundation stone of a bridge to be built across Sirhind Choe on the Cheema-Jakhepal road at a cost of Rs 2.42 crore.
