Divyangs demand pension hike

Divyangs held a protest against the state government for allegedly backtracking on the promise of increasing their pension.

Differently abled persons, who gathered at Nehru Park here, demanded that their pension should be increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000.

Lok Adhikar Lehar Punjab activist Balwinder Singh said soon, a campaign would be launched across the state for the welfare of the disabled. Apart from pension hike, they asked the government to ensure free education and medical treatment to their children and 100-day work under the MGNREGA.

The protesters said there was no special arrangement in Abohar for the convenience of Divyangs.

The deaf and mute children have to go to Faridkot, 100 km from Abohar, to get their certificates prepared.

The government should provide a mobile van facility at Abohar to examine disabled people and make their certificates, the protesters demanded.
