Patiala, February 9
A 24-year-old MBBS doctor was killed in a head-on collision between his car and Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) bus on Samana-Patran road on Sunday morning.
The doctor has been identified as Rohit Garg – a resident of Ghagga town of the Patiala district. The police said accident, reportedly, took place due to fog and overspeeding of the PRTC bus.
The doctor was on his way to Patiala to attend a blood donation camp when the accident occurred around 7.45 am. The car was completely damaged. The doctor, who was alone and driving the car, was pulled out of the wreckage.
After the accident, a truck also rammed into the bus. The truck driver, however, escaped unhurt.
The doctor died on the spot while the bus driver fled the spot – leaving the vehicle behind. In the accident, bus passengers also received minor injuries.
Police said Rohit Garg had completed his MBBS from Government Medical College, Patiala, in 2013-18 batch.
Garg, as informed by his classmates, was a meritorious student and had secured a good rank in NEET PG Examination – the result of which was declared last week.
Angrez Singh, investigating officer, said they had registered a case against the bus driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
He said, “We are conducting raids to nab the driver. The accident occurred due to fog and overspeeding by the bus. The doctor died on the spot.”
