On Tuesday night, at around 8.40 pm, he took away Preet on his bike to the canal and tied her hands with a scarf and threw her into the canal.

The police arrested the accused under Sections 302 of the IPC following a complaint lodged by Sahil Chauhan, nephew of the deceased, who was keeping track of the man that night.

Confessing to the crime, accused Surjit said his daughter “did not obey him and brought disgrace to his family due to her conduct.” That is why he threw her into the canal, he added.
