The SP(D) said seven cases under the NDPS Act were already registered against Jeet Singh, alias Surjit Singh, of Ram Nagar Basti, Sangrur, while his wife Shindo faced five such cases. He said the state government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs and strict action was being taken against drug traffickers.

The district police also conducted a cordon and search operation (CASO) at Bazigar Basti in Dhuri under the state government’s anti-drug drive. During the operation, an absconder, wanted by the Nabha Sadar police, was arrested. The police also seized seven mobile phones and four vehicles.

The SP(D) appealed to the people to share information about drug traffickers with the police, assuring them that the identity of the informers would not be disclosed.
