Sightings and recoveries of narcotics through the use of drones from across the border saw a sharp increase in 2024, especially in border districts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur of Punjab.

According to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) data for 2024, Punjab saw 163 cases of drug trafficking by drones during 2024 which included 187 kg of heroin.

Rajasthan followed with 15 cases of drug trafficking through drones which included 39 kg of heroin seized.

Overall in terms of seizures, among northern states, Haryana led with a whopping 9,955 kg of seizure of ganja, followed by the Union Territory of J&K with 1,168 kg of ganja. Punjab stood third with the seizure of 863 kg of ganja in 2024 as per the NCB data.
