Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal inaugurated the two-day virtual international conference ‘Educon-2020’ through video-conferencing on Thursday. The conference is being organised by Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, (CUPB), in collaboration with the Global Educational Research Association (GERA). The theme of the conference is ‘Envisioning education for transforming youth to restore global peace’.

Scholars from the UK, Canada, Thailand, USA, Australia, Bhutan and India will discuss on the 10 sub-themes of the focal theme, exploring possibilities to use ICT in the higher education to promote equitable quality education in India.

The conference will also provide a platform for discussion on trends that will emerge in education by 2050, developing disruptive technologies for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Education, training youth for strategic future jobs, skill training programmes for future graduates and relevance of the ancient education system.

The Union Minister of Education, who was the chief guest at the conference, said, “We need to train our students and teachers for successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. The NEP is revolutionary, as it focuses on multiple aspects such as promoting mother tongue at the primary level of education and imparting vocational skills training to students at the secondary level.”

He said the NEP emphasised interdisciplinary studies and integrated course curriculum in higher education.

Professor Raghavendra P Tiwari, VC, CUPB, said, “CUPB is committed to quality higher education and cutting-edge research, and this conference will provide a platform to researchers and educationists to draw a strategic plan for implementing the recommendations of the NEP-2020.”
