Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha on Wednesday demanded establishment of a safe corridor to Nankana Sahib in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he said, “I believe that all Members of Parliament will support the issue that I am raising today. During Partition, Punjab was also divided into two parts.”

“Today, there are many gurdwaras, including Kartarpur Sahib, Panja Sahib and Nankana Sahib, in Pakistan. Gurdwara Nankana Sahib is the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev,” he said.

Chadha said, “I am raising three small demands today. First, the governments of India and Pakistan should work together for establishing the Nankana Sahib corridor. Second, the procedure to visit Nankana Sahib should be simplified and no fee should be charged from the devotees.”

Listing his third demand, Chadha said, “From the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar to Nankana Sahib, the distance is 104 km, which should be turned into a safe passage by the governments of both countries.”

Open trade via Wagah

Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla raised the issue of opening trade with Pakistan through the Wagah-Attari route during zero hour in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Aujla said the Wagah border trade route was closed after the Balakot attack in 2019. It had rendered 10,000 persons unemployed, he added.
