Janjua had retired as the Chief Secretary of the state in June last year, after he had served as the top bureaucrat of the state for 11 months. Being amongst the senior most bureaucrats then, he was chosen as the Chief Secretary by the AAP government, after Anirudh Tewari was transferred as CS of Punjab.

Janjua had earlier applied for the post of Chairperson of the Punjab Public Service Commission. But a former police officer, Jatinder Singh Aulakh, was appointed on this position.

Talking to The Tribune, Janjua said his primary focus would be on monitoring that the timelines given for delivery of government services to the common man are met. “I will strive to bring accountability on this aspect so as to ensure a citizen friendly governance,” he said.
