Sharma was admitted to the hospital on December 16 after being shifted from Ferozepur. Ironically, it was his birthday today.

Sharma represented Ferozepur in the Vidhan Sabha five times from 1969 to 2002. He won his first election in 1969 on a Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) ticket and later joined the Congress to win the subsequent election in 1972. — OC
