Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has asked Advocate General (AG) Atul Nanda to examine, in detail, the High Court orders with respect to constructions in the area around Sukhna Lake.

In an interaction with mediapersons outside the Vidhan Sabha, the Chief Minister said his government had received a copy of the judgment today and the AG would examine it and make his recommendations.

The state government, said Capt Amarinder, would take whatever decisions, legislative or judicial needed to resolve the issue. “We stand by the people and will do everything to protect their interests,” he said in response to a question.

Recognising Sukhna Lake as a legal entity, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered demolition of all unauthorised structures in the catchment area around it within three months, while imposing a fine on both Punjab and Haryana.

Earlier, rebel AAP MLA Kanwar Sandhu raised concerns over the fallout of the judgment. He said the case had not been defended in the courts as the issue concerned was related to the autonomy of the state. The Speaker pointed out that the judgment could not be discussed on the floor of the House.
