The suspect has been identified as Sandeep Singh of the same village.

Muktsar SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena said the phone used to make the extortion call had been recovered. “A farmer, Amarjit Singh of Kaoni village, had lodged a complaint that his son Navdeep received a phone call on July 3. The caller asked his son to hand over the phone to him. The caller then demanded Rs 1 crore and 30 tolas of gold as extortion by introducing himself as an aide of Bishnoi stating that he was calling from a jail in Delhi. The caller warned of dire consequences in case he failed to pay the amount. The next day, the complainant again received a similar phone call,” said the SSP.

A case under Sections 308 (4) and 351 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at the Kotbhai police station. “The suspect is also a farmer. We are investigating the matter,” said the SSP.
