A large number of people from Bama Kulian village staged a dharna near the Bela bus stand alleging that the police failed to take action against accused, who attacked a local youth on July 16. The protesters also brought injured youth Shubham at the dharna site.

Mahinderpal Singh, Shubham’s father, said nearly six people attacked Shubham on July 16, injuring him seriously following which he was referred by local doctors to the PGI, Chandigarh. Even four days after the attack, the police didn’t take any action, emboldening the accused who have been roaming free in the village and threatening them, he alleged.

After six hours, victim’s parents agreed to lift dharna when local SHO Rupinder Singh assured them that a case had been registered against the accused and soon they would be arrested.
