Baba Farid University, AIIMS ink pact to boost healthcare system in Punjab

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) at Faridkot and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, joined hands to enhance the healthcare ecosystem in the state on Tuesday.

The collaboration between BFUHS and AIIMS aimed to revolutionise the healthcare landscape of the state, said Dr Rajeev Sood, Vice-Chancellor of BFUHS, and Prof DK Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bathinda.

The medical institutions signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to foster a holistic and synergistic healthcare ecosystem with a strong emphasis on research and development.

The MOU stipulated that projects and courses, duly accredited and approved by the appropriate authorities, currently running in either institution can be launched in the other institution, if desired. Dr Sood said, “This provision ensures that successful initiatives can be replicated and scaled, maximising their impact.”

The Executive Director of AIIMS, Bathinda, Prof DK Singh, said, “This move is expected to uplift the standards of healthcare services by ensuring that professionals across the spectrum are well-equipped with the latest knowledge and skills. The agreement also highlights the importance of utilising faculty services for equipment currently unavailable or non-functional at either institution, optimising resource utilisation, and enhancing operational efficiency.”

By pooling resources and expertise, BFUHS and AIIMS can address the pressing healthcare needs of the region, driving advancements in medical science and patient care, he said. One of the significant facets of this MOU is the establishment of faculty and student exchange programmes, which will facilitate knowledge sharing and skill enhancement, thereby enriching the academic and professional experiences of both institutions, he said.
