Congress leader and Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh on Wednesday alleged that farmers were being forced to sell their paddy crop below the MSP, cut ranging between Rs 50 and Rs 500 per quintal.

“Instead of ensuring procurement of crop on the MSP, the Centre is evading its responsibilities,” he alleged.

Pargat said neither the 14-member central team had submitted its report on crop damage, nor had the Punjab Government acted promptly to release compensation to flood-hit farmers. “When farmers demand aid, the AAP government shifts blame to the Centre instead of fulfilling its own obligations. The result is that the farmers alone continue to suffer,” he said.

Pargat also criticised the BJP and AAP IT cells for spreading misinformation and blaming Punjab for Delhi’s air pollution, terming it an annual tactic.
