On the call of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), farmer unions organised tractor marches in Sangrur and Bhawanigarh on January 26 in protest against the Draft National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing (NPFAM) and to press for the MSP guarantee law, besides acceptance of their other demands.

Farmers gathered at the Sangrur grain market. They organised a tractor march to Mahavir Chowk, near Civil Hospital. They were demanding scrapping of the NPFAM, enactment of MSP law, loan waiver to farmers and farm labourers and Rs 10,000 monthly pension for farmers and labourers above 60 years of age etc. A tractor march was also organised from Gharachon village to Bhawanigarh. At Bhawanigarh, the march was held from the SDM office to the local grain market. Farm leader Jagtar Singh Kalajhar said the Centre should cancel the NPFAM and enact the MSP law.
