Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsFarmers, under the banner of the BKU (Sidhupur), staged a protest over the issues of stubble burning and non-fulfilment of their pending demands outside the DC office here on Monday.
They said the satellites, which could detect stubble-burning within five minutes, failed to notice lakhs of acres of submerged crops, floating corpses and damaged houses. They alleged the corporate-friendly governments had been framing anti-farmer and anti-worker policies. Such actions could only be resisted through collective struggle, they said. The protesters were addressed by union general secretary Kaka Singh Kotda, district president Baldev Singh Sandoha, district general secretary Resham Singh Yatri and others.
A meeting was held with the Bathinda SSP on Monday, who assured them that a meeting would be arranged with the Bathinda DC, Chief Agriculture Officer and other officials concerned on Tuesday at 1 pm. They said the protest would continue until the district administration accepted their demands.
