An awareness programme for the farmers was organised at the Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology in Abohar.

A team comprising Dr Siliya, Dr Pradeep and Dr Bharat Gawade from the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) enlightened the farmers about the history of plant genetic conservation and appealed to them to identify local varieties which give good yield.

Dr Anil Sangwan, Director, Regional Research Centre, Punjab Agricultural University, Abohar, spoke about the importance of horticultural crops in human health and balanced diet and urged the farmers to adopt the Nutrition Garden Model developed by the PAU and establish a Nutrition Garden in every house so that fruits and vegetables are available throughout the year.
