The result has been prepared from the feedback of 3,522 middle, 1,738 high and 2,052 senior secondary schools in the state. In the district-wise category, Amritsar and Tarn Taran were at the bottom of the overall performance in Class X results. Both the districts were also last in the list for Class XII.

The Hira Wali school is special because a large number of students from private schools in adjoining areas have shifted to it. More interestingly, many visitors from private schools come to have a look at the school functioning.

While GSSS, Karandi, attracts students as its teams have featured at events at the national level, GES, Rattoke, remains abuzz with education and sports-related activities daily for long hours.

The evaluation has been carried out on the basis of school results, infrastructure, attendance of students and extra-curricular activities. Marks are specifically allotted for: Overall academic, sports and extra-curricular activities; condition of the campus; status of plantation on the campus; activities like quiz and debate; and school participation in social welfare activities.

Secretary (School Education) Krishan Kumar said, “The result will be declared formally next week. Besides appreciation letters, these schools will be given preference for special schemes.”

Head of GHS, Hira Wali, Navdeep Kaur said, “We offer students diverse activities beyond the scope of normal classroom teaching. Students themselves are goaded into designing their activities in science and sports parks. Instead of one-way preaching, we encourage them to participate in two-way learning.”

Assistant Director Jaswinder Kaur, who was the principal of GSSS, Karandi, during the period for which the school was evaluated, said, “the hallmark of the performance has been the dedication of staff. Besides extra classes for students, our staff contributed even for purchasing dresses for students and also sprucing up the campus.”

Head of GES, Rattoke, Surinder Singh said, “The key to school running for long hours daily is the voluntary participation by students and the faith of their parents.”

GMS, Kular (Ludhiana), has been adjudged second among middle schools while GMS, Bhangal Khurd, Amargarg (SBS Nagar), is third. GHS, Babarpur (Ludhiana), is second among high schools while GHS, Himmatpura (Fazilka), is third. In the category of senior secondary schools, GSSS, Nehru Garden (Jalandhar), is the first runner-up followed by GSSS, Manakpur (Patiala).
