A team led by Rakesh Kumar, Assistant General Manager (Quality Control), Food Corporation of India (FCI), today visited some grain markets and focal points in the district to lift samples of fresh wheat crop to assess the extent of shrivelled grain problem.

Himanshu Kukkar, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller (DFCSC), Muktsar, said, “The FCI team has come to assess the situation and is touring the area. Primarily, the extent of shrivelled grain appears to be beyond the permissible limit of 6 per cent, but the report is awaited.” Meanwhile, the procurement of wheat remained affected today due to the strike of the inspectors of the state’s procurement agencies. On this, the DFCSC said, “The inspectors of procurement agencies remained on strike till afternoon and the wheat procurement work began thereafter.”

The inspectors had gone on a strike seeking relaxation in the norms for shrivelled grains. —
