Festive rush keeps cops on toes in Malerkotla

Festival days are turning out to be a litmus test for the Malerkotla Police as they have to perform multidimensional roles.

Unlike other days, top-rung personnel seemed to be more occupied as they wished to mark their presence at orphanages, old-age homes, educational institutions, social organisations and venues of events being conducted as a part of campaign to remember cops who sacrificed their lives during terrorism.

SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, while leading cops during a flag march at a local market, appreciated that the rank and file in the department had come forward to accept the situation as a litmus test and forgo all privileges during the festival season.

“Having realised the situation of cops staying away from their families during festival season, we have advised our senior officers to ‘celebrate’ Diwali with them by either distributing sweets or organising brief parties,” said Gagan Ajit Singh.

Cops posted at District Saanjh Kendra led by incharge Surinder Pal Singh organised events at Sohrab Public Senior Secondary School and Harf College to spread awareness about causes and consequences of environmental pollution besides risks involved in bursting unsafe crackers.

SP (H) Swaranjit Singh and DSP (Special) Ranjit Singh Bains visited orphanages and old-age homes to greet inmates on the occasion of Diwali.
