The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to immediately announce a recruitment drive to fill all vacant posts in the Health and Education Departments. It said the AAP government had not filled any vacancy and some of the posts had been abolished.

Reacting to the resignations of senior doctors as well as huge backlog of vacancies in government schools, senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said, “Today’s blockade of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office in Lehragaga is reflective of the deep angst among the people at the government’s failure to run schools efficiently”. He said the blockade of the SDM’s office was preceded by a four-day-long dharna, demanding the transfer of a teacher to a village school, which fell on deaf ears, thus forcing people to block the SDM’s office today.

Cheema also accused the AAP ministers and legislators of garnering cheap publicity by raiding the hospitals and schools, upsetting the established chain of command.

No action taken

Even though people were blockading govt offices, no action was taken to fill vacancies, let alone create new jobs for the youth. — Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, SAD leader
