A massive fire broke out late last evening in the Jain Nagar residential area near Namdev Chowk, Abohar, after two gas cylinders exploded inside spare parts shops. The blast caused significant damage to the shop goods and a school van that was parked nearby. Fortunately, due to the Sunday closure of businesses, there were no casualties.

The fire, whose cause is yet to be determined, triggered panic among locals, especially as the explosions occurred while the area was experiencing a scheduled power outage due to maintenance work on the transmission lines.

Quick action by the fire brigade, led by Varinder Kumar, in-charge of the fire department, helped contain the blaze after intense efforts. While three gas cylinders were safely removed, the explosions could have led to a far worse disaster had the nearby shops not been closed for the day.
