Five members of a family were killed after the roof of their house collapsed while they were asleep last night, the police said on Saturday. The incident took place at Pandori Gola village here.

Those killed in the incident were identified as Gurinder Singh Gobinda (45), his wife Amarjit Kaur (43), daughter Rajbir Kaur Ekam (15), sons Gurlal Singh (16) and Gurbaj Singh (12).

Gurinder Singh was a daily-wage earner. His elder brother Kawaljit Singh said after coming to know about the incident, neighbours extricated the family members from the debris and took them to a hospital where the doctors declared them dead.

Rajbir Kaur, a Class X student, was also a state-level kabaddi player.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
