Lalpura NCM chief again

New Delhi: Iqbal Singh Lalpura, former police officer from Punjab, on Wednesday took charge as Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities after being re-nominated by the government. Lalpura unsuccessfully contested the Punjab Assembly elections from Rupnagar segment recently. He had resigned as NCM chief to contest the poll. TNS

Man jumps into canal, dead

Muktsar: A man allegedly ended his life by jumping into a canal near Baja Mrar village on Wednesday. The deceased was later identified as Ravi Chawla (60), a grocery store owner at Mandi Bariwala here. His body was fished out from near Bhullar village here. A case has been registered. PTI

5 phones found in barracks

Ferozepur: Five mobile phones were found in Central Jail barracks here. Jail Superintendent Parvinder Singh said the phones were found hidden behind LCD panels in barrack number 2 and 3. A case under Section 52-A of the Prisoners Act has been registered and the investigation in on. OC

Chandigarh: Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today launched the website of the Punjab State Co-op Agricultural Development Bank for the convenience of the farmers.
